Using Tables to Control the Layout
Overview:
In this lesson you reconstruct the home page of your personal web site using Homesite or Notepad based on the specifications and the storyboard you created in the previous lesson.
Learner Outcomes:
At the completion of this exercise, you will have demonstrated your ability to:
- control the horizontal alignment within the table cell tag.
- control the vertical alignment within the table cell tag.
- span columns and rows of a table with the aid of an editor's wizard.
- span columns and rows of a table without the aid of an editor's wizard.
- nest a table within a table.
- make elements of adjoining cells contact without gaps or borders.
Activities
- Code the home page to your personal web site according to your specifications and storyboard.
- You must use a table to control the layout of at least the navigation buttons and the focal image (your portrait).
- Other than that use any and all of the tricks you have learned in this unit or previous units to create an attractive home page.
- table attributes such as border, cellpadding, cellspacing,
- nesting tables,
- giving cells dimension and aligning vertically and horizontally, and
- non-breaking space and pixel shims
