Flat Stanley Gone Digital (12-08-08) Grade 1
Would you and your class like to host our Flat Stanley for two weeks? We promise he’ll be really quiet and he won’t eat much. However, he does have a couple of requests. While he visits you, he would like for you to take digital pictures of his stay and research some basic information about your home town. All pictures and information will be posted onto our project’s WIKI. If possible, concluding his visit, we would like to conduct a Skype call via web cam to talk about some of the information that was added to our WIKI. I am working with a pre-kindergarten class. The class will be studying the State of Louisiana including different kinds of animals that are found in the state: woodland animals, insects, wetlands animals. We would like to know about the different kinds of animals that live in your state or country. Since this is pre-k, we will only use email to setup conferences. We would like to use Skype to conference with other pre-k or kindergarten classes about the animals in their state or country. We will track the information on a Wiki. The Louisiana Purchase Goes Digital (12-08-08) Grade 4
Looking for partnering classrooms who were originally a part of the Louisiana Purchase, which include AR, OK, MO, IA, MN, ND, SD, KS, CO, WY, and MT.
Based on the book, Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown, Flat T-Boudreaux was born and raised in southern Louisiana. He will travel to states originally a part of the Louisiana Purchase. In addition to daily journal writings of Flat T’s visit, each participating class will explore their state’s historical background, unique customs and traditions, geographical features, and animal habitats.

I am the Instructional Technology Coordinator for the Hastings-on-Hudson School District in New York. We are located approximately 10 miles north of New York City. I have a 4th grade teacher who is interested in connecting with a classroom of students elsewhere to provide his class with pen pals.
His immediate objective is to encourage the process of writing, as well as building typing and word processing skills. Connecting students to a "Pen Pal" elsewhere has proven an effective method to encourage and build these necessary skills. Given our proximity to NYC, our location on the Hudson River, and our high academic standards our students can offer the opportunity to share their regional geography and personal experiences with students elsewhere. Two videoconferences would be scheduled; the first in late February, would focus on the Breadth section. The second conference, in late April, will focus on the Concentration section.
The conferences will provide Advanced Placement Studio in Art students with an opportunity to share the progress of their art work as they move towards completion of their portfolios. Students would present and speak about work from their portfolios in Drawing and 2-D Design, beginning with a broad presentation of their body of work and then focusing on one selected piece. The students from each school will research a Spanish-speaking country or region (Chile, Cuba, Bolivia, etc.) and write a report. They will include the following: the capital city, population, educational system, information about one important visual artist (Examples: Frida Kahlo, Picasso, Salvador Dali, etc.). The students will present a two-minute summary of their regions artist IN SPANISH to their class and 3 other classes via ITV. They may use props such as: maps, maracas, sombreros, typical music of the region, and one sample of the artist’s work. They will NOT indicate the name of the artist in their oral presentation. The students from the other sites will take turns asking questions IN SPANISH about the artist. They will try to guess the name of the artist. Each school should have 5 students prepared to present.
