Description:

Use visual learning software tools to increase student performance in critical thinking, retention, comprehension and organization skills. This two-session course will provide foundational understanding and skills in using Word and Inspiration tools to build graphic organizers, brainstorming webs, and concept maps. Teachers will learn how to use graphic organizers in classroom brainstorming, pre-writing strategies, and content review. Participants will build upon the following powerful teaching and learning strategies:

Teachers provide a classroom environment that actively engages all students in learning.
Teachers utilize a continuum of support leading to responsible, independent learners.

Objectives:
Participants will be able to:

Understand effectiveness of graphic organizers in the classroom
Identify appropriate uses of graphic organizers
Create, edit, and save graphic organizers
Customize graphic organizers using symbols, text format, colors, and images
Hyperlink to web resources
Explore the features of Inspiration

Outlines and/or diagrams
Brainstorming
Templates
Labels and notes

Create an Inspiration/Word graphic organizer for classroom use
