PROCEDURE:
  1. Pick a topic that is broad enough to create 4 pages but not so broad that the information on the pages is common knowledge.  For instance, dogs is too broad, but pugs might be more interesting.  Possible topics include hobbies, clubs, businesses, recreational activities, and other kinds of interests you are involved in.
  2. Begin by brainstorming and researching the answers to these questions. Use Word to create a document containing the list of questions and your answers:
     
    1. Five open-ended questions you have about your topic that your website will answer
    2. Three main topics and websites that have information about them
    3. Discuss the possible bias of each of the above websites and what you will do about it
    4. How will you give credit to the author of each site--do you need to ask peremission for the use of pictures, etc.?
    5. Basic links you will want to include on your list

  4. You will research your topic on the Internet
    • Evaluate websites using both the course design  evaluation rubric and the Research module evaluation page.
  1. Project Plan—this should include your site map (outline) and your storyboard (sketch). The site map will list the page names and content in outline form. The storyboard will illustrate the page layout and site organization, including links and image locations. (5 pts.)
  2. HTML Code—the pages themselves must meet the following requirements: (10 pts. Each)
    • Minimum of 4 pages with working links to and from home page
    • Include a background color or imageInclude a table
    • Include images: 1)Appropriate size for page & 2) Captions/descriptions if necessary
  1. Files properly organized (10 pts.)
  2. Use proper spelling and grammar (10 pts.)
  3. Message--the content of the site must include: (10 pts. each)
    • Page 1--Your topic and 3 or more sub-topics, each of which is linked to its own page
    • Pages 2-4--Each sub-topic should be fully explored and presented with thoughtful analysis and links to useful or helpful information on the Internet. For each site link, you must add commentary pointing out the site's features and drawbacks. and hints for users.
    • Additional page, time permitting--A wrap-up on the topic: Frequently Asked Questions, The Future of...., etc.

    • Valuable information, balanced view point, interestingly presented
    • Audience-appropriate
    • Organized content
  2. Peer Evaluations—Evaluate 3 peer web pages. Include 3 evaluations from your peers in your portfolio. Peer evaluations will be performed on a date to be announced. (10 pts)
  3. Redesign—Consider peer evaluation comments and feedback in redesigning your web page. This is your chance to work out all the quirks!
  4. Turn in your website:

  • Your whole topic folder (with your pages and images inside)
  • Your Word document from step 2

You can’t open the period folder but you can put things in it. 

  1. You will present your web page to the teacher for evaluation. During your presentation, you must be able to show how each HTML Code requirement is met in order to receive credit for it. Make sure your page is working well before you present it!
