This activity is intended to provide students with experience working specifically with formulas. Rather than start from scratch, students create formulas for a pre-existing spreadsheet. This allows them to focus more attention on the formulas.

Students can either write the formulas manually or use the Function Wizard. To activate the Function Wizard click on the " = " located in the upper left-hand of the screen, next to the formula bar or command line. Select the appropriate function in the drop-down window to the left, and then click the appropriate cells to complete the function. You may need to drag the window out of the way in order to select cells.

Students should turn in a printout that meets ALL of the requirements listed. Draw students' attention to the steps listed at the bottom of the directions page. If they don't apply AutoFit, they will print unnecessary sheets, as well as produce a table that is harder to look at. Insist that they view the worksheet in Print Preview before printing.

You may wish to have students print two versions of the spreadsheet: one with formulas visible, and one with values shown. Consult your T: Drive. The file named StockMktassignfinal.xls shows how both versions should look, and also contains sheets showing each type of formula.

Assessment for this activity should focus primarily on the formulas and a properly printed format.
