Stock Market Tracking Sheet

Goal: Develop the fundamental skills necessary for creating and editing formulas.

Scenario:
 Stocks R. US, an international banking firm, has created a spreadsheet to track the activity of an individual's investments. The spreadsheet lists the stocks purchased, the purchase price of the stocks, and how many shares were purchased. It tracks how the price of the stock changes and the effects the market has on the individual's portfolio.

Task:
 Open the stock market spreadsheet, go to File > Save As and save a copy of the file to H: \tech connections\Spreadsheets. Name the file with your first and last initials and stock (--stock.xls). Return to these web directions, then open Excel, and open the saved file.

Create formulas to calculate the required information. Include formulas for:

· Cost of Investment: Multiply the number of shares by the closing price.
· Current Investment Value: Multiply number of shares by the current closing price.
· Net Gain/Loss: Subtract the cost of investment from the current value.
· Totals for each column: Use the fill handle to drag the formulas down cells in the columns before totaling.

 Print and turn in a Stock Market Tracking Sheet meeting these requirements:
· Print complete spreadsheet on one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper
· Show formulas instead of values
· Center horizontally and vertically
· Include your name and class period in the header

To fit the spreadsheet to one page:
     Select the spreadsheet, go to File > Page Setup > Page tab and choose Fit to 1 page

To view formulas on the spreadsheet, go to:
     Tools > Options > View tab > choose Formulas under Windows options

To center the spreadsheet on the page:
      Go to File > Page Setup > Margins and check the boxes for Horizontally and Vertically.
