chart image  Spreadsheet - Suncoast Assignment- Teacher Tips

This activity is intended to follow the Suncoast introductory activity.

Each student should have a copy of the suncst.xls file created during the previous class activity. This file should be stored on their H: drive.  Using the copied suncst.xls file, each student will:

  1. Add 10 more employees
  2. Modify formula for calculating Net Pay (to include $25 weekly healthcare deduction)
  3. Modify formatting


The modified Net Pay formula should look like this: (=D5-F5-25 or =D5-E5-F5). There are many ways to write this formula. The idea is that students must use formulas rather than performing calculations on their own.

Depending on how you created your original Suncoast spreadsheet, the format may or may not be the same. When the students are asked to add a row, there might already be a row available, in which case all they need to do is to format the existing row.


Consult your T: Drive for an example of the final workbook. The file is named SuncoastFinal.xls

There is also a sheet of printing instructions you can give to your students.  It is named PrintingSuncoast.doc.


To view formulas on the spreadsheet, select:

Tools > Options > View tab > select formulas under Window options

Or use the shortcut: Control + ~
