  • Ethics, Email and Network Key Competencies

PROCEDURES

  1. Take the Technology Self-Assessment to see where you might need work.
  2. View a short PowerPoint presentation on ethics.
  3. Sign the Internet permission form. Keep it until the end of class.
  4. Watch student demo of logging on, finding H: drive, creating folders, and saving a Word document to the Tech Connections folder.
  5. At your own computer do the following: log on, change your password, find the H: drive, and create folders:
    • Main folder: TechConnect
    • Sub folders: ComputerBasics, WordProcessing, Spreadsheet, SearchSkills, Database, CareerEduc, Publishing, Presentation, WebDesign

  6. Open a Word document and, based on your Tech Self-Assessment, write three goals you might have to improve your technology use this year. Name the document "TechGoals" and save it to your Tech Connections folder in your H: drive.
  7. Save a second copy of the document in the public folder. You must give it a new name: your log on name. This is so you don't overwrite someone else's document.
  8. Check to see if your account has Internet access, by using these outside sites: www.google.com, www.yahoo.com, and www.cob.org
  9. You need a parent's signature on your permission slip for Internet access. Take it home. Return it to the library when signed, so your Internet and email will be activated.

Technology Connections is a semester-long course designed to equip all 9th grade students with organizational skills and technology tools needed to accomplish high level learning goals. The course works in conjunction with other required freshman classes (i.e., English, Science, etc.). Elements of school and career planning will be incorporated.
