GOAL: Demonstrate proficiency in adding and formatting text within a PowerPoint slide.

Save in your H: drive—All tasks will be assessed upon completion. See Peer Evaluation Form in Student Resources.

PROCEDURE:

  1. Open PowerPoint and select Blank presentation (click OK).
  2. In the New Slide window select the blank layout.

Insert WordArt:

  1. Click Insert (in the upper toolbar) and select Picture,WordArt. Choose a style and click OK.
  2. Change the font to Tahoma and increase the font size to 96. Type Highlights and press OK.
  3. Fill the top portion of the page with your title by dragging the small squares in the box surrounding it. Leave a small space near the edge on each side. Note: Drag from the corners to keep it proportional. Drag with the double pointed arrow to move the whole object.


Insert a Text Box:

  1. Select Insert> Text Box. Click in the left side of the slide below your title. Click and pull cursor to shape a small box. (The flashing cursor should appear inside after you let go.)
  2. Type By inside the box, hit Enter and then type your name on the next line within the box.
  3. Select your text by clicking to the left of the first letter and draging the mouse over the words.
  4. Under Format> Font, select Bold and change to Tahoma, size to 40.
  5. Select again and choose Format> Alignment, Center.

Add a new slide and Format Text:

  1. Again select a blank slide.
  2. Insert a text box and type Table of Contents.
  3. Select Format> Font. Select Bold and change font to Tahoma, size 40. In the Effects box, select Underline.
  4. Insert another text box below the first, and type this list, pressing Enter after each item:

    Interests

    Favorite Places

    Family

  5. Select the list by left-clicking in the box and dragging the mouse over the list (highlighting only the list).
  6. Select Format> Bullets and Numbering. Pick a color, shape and size for your bullets and click OK.
  7. With the text still selected, select various options in the Format menu to increase the Line spacing to 1.5 lines, change the font to Comic Sans, and make the text all UPPERCASE.
  8. Save as LastnamePractice.ppt (replace "Lastname" with your last name) in your H: drive. You will be working with this file again.
