PROCEDURES

  1. View a short PowerPoint presentation on ethics.
  2. Sign the Internet permission form. Keep it until the end of class.
  3. Open the Outlook Instructions and practice using:
    • Calendar
    • Contacts and Distribution Lists
    • Delete unwanted messages
    • Organize messages in folders
    • Special features for sending and receiving messages
  4. Use Outlook to complete the following steps:
    • Send an email with an attachment and specific subject to yourself
    • Reply to yourself
    • Reply to All (now you are being Cc'd)
    • Forward that reply to yourself
    • Use the Save As and save it as HTML
    • Create a folder and save all of those emails into it
  5. Complete the Email Format assignment.
  6. Open file saving instructions and create folders as described on page 2.
  7. Open the Technology Self-Assessment and choose Save As...  to save a copy to your Ethics, Email and Network folder. Open the file in your folder and complete the Self-Assessment to see where you might need work.  (Type "x" at the level which best describes your abilities within each application.)  When finished, save your changes to the Self-Assessment.
  8. Open a Word document and, based on your Tech Self-Assessment, write three goals you might have to improve your technology use this year. Name the document "TechGoals" and save it to your Tech Connections folder in your H: drive.
  9. Check to see if your account has Internet access, by using these outside sites: www.google.com, www.yahoo.com, and www.cob.org
  10. You need a parent's signature on your permission slip for Internet access. Take it home. Return it to the library when signed, so your Internet and email will be activated.

Technology Connections is a semester-long course designed to equip all 9th grade students with organizational skills and technology tools needed to accomplish high level learning goals. The course works in conjunction with other required freshman classes (i.e., English, Science, etc.). Elements of school and career planning will be incorporated.
