Email Assignment
An email is an electronic memorandum. Email etiquette is essential in a school and business environment. The schools you attend and the employers you have will have specific email rules, but here are some general guidelines when using email.
- Include a subject line
- Salutations are recommended even though the name may be in the email address
- Carefully use text variations (bold, underline, italics, all caps, punctuation, symbols, etc.)
- When sending an attachment, include at least a brief message introducing it
- Type your name at the end even though it may be in your email address
- Avoid using abbreviations (lol, asap, etc.)
- Follow proper grammar and punctuation rules (capitalize appropriately please!)
- Proofread and run spell/grammar check
- Check your email often enough to respond in a reasonable time to a request
- When responding to a question, be sure to include the sender’s message or rephrase the question; an email of “yes” or “no” may not help the sender who sent many such emails
- Let the sender of a document know that you have received it
- Keep emails brief
- Realize that email is not protected; don’t write anything you don’t want the world to know
