Publishing--Teacher Tips
Some tips for working with the publishing software:
- Instructions in this module have students using Wizards to create publications.
Technology Connections does not include a "tutorial" for using MS Publisher,
but the instructions include some tips on how to manipulate certain features. The Help
and Index functions are readily available in Publisher. When you begin
this module, point out to students that below the Publisher window, on the
right-hand side of the screen, there are toggle buttons to Show or Hide both Help
and Index. The buttons look like pyramids--bright green when the functions are
hidden, dark red when they show. This is a convenient way to get help when needed or keep
it out of the way when it's not.
- Students should also know that the Undo feature in Publisher is very limited. It
can usually only be used to undo the last step. Encourage students to save often when
their document is looking the way they want it. Then, if they make unfortunate changes
that they can't undo, they can just close the document without saving changes and
reopen the last saved version.
- In Publisher, you select any object to make changes by clicking or double
clicking on it. If you wish to deselect the item, simply click anywhere outside
that object.
- See your Career Center director to obtain sample flyers for critique, and/or learn names
of Graphic Designers you could invite to your classroom. This "Personnel"
resource is optional.
