CHALLENGE:  Create a design and layout that will encourage people to read a brochure publicizing information.
TASK: Evaluate existing brochures and learn how to create a professional quality brochure of your own design using Microsoft Publisher. PRODUCT: Create a professional quality brochure.

PROCEDURES:
Prior to completing this unit perform the following task:
Collect 2 distinctly different brochures from local businesses. Bring these with you to the next class meeting.

Step 1 - Discuss and evaluate the design of the brochures collected from the community. Use the 10 Tips and the Brochure Checklist provided in Student Resources to evaluate the quality of the brochures.

Step 2 – Create a brochure that informs, educates, or persuades. Suggested topics:

  • Where you live
  • A country or specific region
  • Your resume (skills, experience)
  • Mars, Saturn, the Moon, etc.
  • A unit of study
  • An organization or group related to your current unit of study (Sons of Liberty, Navajo Code Talkers)
  • A local or school organization (a club, school football team)

Be sure to check your concept with your teacher.
Follow these steps:

  • Read the Challenge statement above.
  • Open Brochure How To and follow the directions for Making a Brochure with Microsoft Publisher.
  • Refer to the 10 Tips, the Evaluation Rubric, and the Sample Brochure for design and content ideas.
