Ethics, Email and Network Expectations

Module Goals

Key Competencies

·         Understand and comply with district network rules.

·         Understand rules and laws pertaining to plagiarism and ethics while adhering to district Acceptable Use Polices.

·         Use e-mail effectively and appropriately

·         Understand basic e-mail functions and tools

 

·         Understand elements of district network/Internet/email system, including ethical use of network resources

·         Demonstrate understanding of intellectual property and copyright law by properly crediting work of self and others

·         Send, receive, reply, forward, save, delete messages

·         Create folders and organize messages

·         Create short, simple, concise messages

·         Use appropriate e-mail etiquette, including subject line

Keyboarding

Module Goals

Key Competencies

·         Develop proper keyboarding techniques and build basic speed and accuracy.

 

·         Keyboard at 30 WPM or better with 95% accuracy

·         Develop proper keyboarding techniques, including safety methods to avoid repetitive strain injury

·         Develop and apply proper keyboarding techniques to input and manipulate data, and produce personal and business documents

·         Apply ergonomic techniques to information technology tasks

 

Computer Basics and File Management

Module Goals

Key Competencies

·         Demonstrate knowledge of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.

·         Perform basic personal computer operations.

·         Demonstrate moving around the BSD network, saving files to your home drive and the network public drives.

 

·         Explain the difference between systems software and applications software

·         Diagram, label and describe the function of the PC components

·         Turn systems on and off using correct procedure

·         Use printers and other peripherals such as scanners, zip drives and CD writers

·         Use correct log on and log off procedures

·         Use mouse to point, click, double click, drag and scroll, and right click

·         Move, copy, rename and delete files

·         Create, rename and delete folders

·         Move files between folders in network drives, including h:drive, class drop box and public drive

·         Back up files

·         Save to various drives, floppy disks, and CD’s

·         Switch between different files within the same application

Career and Educational Planning

·         Establish Personal Portfolio

·         Explore career areas corresponding to interest patterns.

·         Demonstrate skills required application for employment and post-high school educational process.

 

·         Establish portfolio to include Career and Educational Planning tools and “best works”

·         Utilize an assessment tool to guide career and educational planning.

·         Complete a Career Exploration Research project using digital and print resources
