Computer Basics and File Management Module Goals:

• Demonstrate knowledge of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.
• Perform basic personal computer operations.
• Demonstrate moving around the BSD network, saving files to your home drive and the network public drives.
  

Computer Basics and File Management Module Key Competencies:

• Explain the difference between systems software and applications software
• Diagram, label and describe the function of the PC components
• Turn systems on and off using correct procedure
• Use printers and other peripherals such as scanners and CD writers
• Use correct log on and log off procedures
• Use mouse to point, click, double click, drag and scroll, and right click
• Move, copy, rename and delete files
• Create, rename and delete folders
• Move files between folders in network drives, including h:drive, class drop box and public drive
• Back up files
• Save to various drives, floppy disks, and CD’s
• Switch between different files within the same application
• Switch between different applications
• Use online help and reference manuals to answer questions in specific programs
• Demonstrate understanding of computer virus protection strategies
