Computer Basics and File Management
Module Goals:
- Demonstrate knowledge of concepts
underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.
- Perform basic personal computer
operations.
- Demonstrate moving around the
BSD network, saving files to your home drive and the network public drives.

Module Key Competencies:
- Explain the
difference between systems software and applications software
- Diagram, label
and describe the function of the PC components
- Turn systems
on and off using correct procedure
- Use printers
and other peripherals such as scanners and CD writers
- Use correct
log on and log off procedures
- Use mouse
to point, click, double click, drag and scroll, and right click
- Move, copy,
rename and delete files
- Create, rename
and delete folders
- Move files
between folders in network drives, including h:drive, class drop box and public
drive
- Back up files
- Save to various
drives, floppy disks, and CD’s
- Switch between
different files within the same application
- Switch between
different applications
- Use online
help and reference manuals to answer questions in specific programs
- Demonstrate
understanding of computer virus protection strategies
