Career & Educational Planning - 3. Prepare a Plan - Teacher Tips

Day One:

Step 1 Materials needed: Portfolio folders
Printed copies of ‘Education/Training Options after HS’
(from ‘Course Description book’--reproduced for you below)
‘Activities’ sheet
‘Grade-level guidelines’

Have students retrieve ‘Career Qualities Chart’ from portfolio – review Education/Training recommendations and Suggested School Courses

Hand out ‘Education/Training Options after HS’ sheet and review Education options

Hand out ‘BHS Activities’ sheet – review info

Hand out Grade-level Guidelines as a student resource to add to portfolio

Have students file all materials in portfolio

Step 2 – Complete 'Activities Record'

Access "Activities Record' – WORD version from TC Unit 3 Homepage link
Have students print one copy to put in portfolio, save to TC folder and floppy disk

Day Two: Counselor presentations

Step 1 Materials needed: Floppy disks for each student
Portfolios

Have students retrieve ‘Career & Educational Planning Card’ and Pathway brochure from portfolios

Have students go to ‘Personal Education Plan’ template on TC Internet site

Students will enter their educational planning info on EXCEL worksheet following Counselor instruction – and reference to their own Pathway brochure

Have students print 2 copies of completed ‘Personal Education Plan’: one goes to the counselor and one is filed into portfolio

Have students save to their TC folder on their H drive and to a floppy disk

File hardcopy and disk in portfolio (envelope added for disk)

Step 2 – Have students check off completion of ‘Personal Education Plan’ and ‘Activities Record’ on their blue checklist
