Teacher Tips for This Project

The following are possible suggestions to ensure that the research module runs smoothly.

  • This research module is intended to be used as a 5th grade performance assessment and should be completed in one day.
  • Students should complete this project in groups of 2-3.
  • The essential question should be discussed with students prior to beginning the project, especially the concept of what they choose as most important to share. They should understand that there is no right or wrong answer, but they should be able to explain why they made the choice to share the information they selected.
  • There is no Power Point template available for this project. Because the student presentation is open-ended, it is impossible to prepare generic slides. The reporting page has suggestions for what should be included. If students need help with the basics of using PowerPoint, you may provide assistance. Simply note the amount of help needed in the assessment.
