In Module Three you
will explore Electric Library, a large database of articles from magazines,
newspapers, television and radio. You may find information which will help you
solve your research problem. The following directions will help you navigate
your way through Electric Library. Example:
1.
Return to Program
Manager and find the Electric Library program icon.
2.
Double Click on box
calling for New Search.
3.
Before beginning your
search, turn off every source, except Magazines and Newspapers by clicking the
source buttons to off. Now try a search by typing key words such as
"Kilauea Volcano" in the box below the words, What do you want to
know? When searching make sure you include the quotation marks around your
word to narrow the search. If a word comes up unknown, select the skip
option.
4.
Scan through the titles
and open the articles which relate best to your questions. Scan to see if there
are answers to any of the questions you have listed.
5.
When you encounter good
phrases and sentences, highlight and save them in your Notes Sheet. Remember to
highlight only those phrases and sentences which are clearly related to your
primary questions. Be sparing!
6.
Don't forget to cite
your sources.
7.
Some other keywords to
search might be "Mount Rainier eruption" . See if you can locate any
information on "Mt. Baker", as well.
