In Module Two you
will explore ProQuest, a large database of fact files and articles from
journals and magazines. You may find information which will help you solve your
research problem. The following directions will help you navigate your way
through ProQuest. Example:
1.
Return to Program
Manager and find the PROQUEST program icon.
2.
Open PROQUEST and click.
3.
If you have never used PROQUEST
before, you may wish to stop and read the instructions and helpful hints in the
HELP menu.
4.
Now try a search using
two or more keywords with "AND" between each word . . .
Kilauea
AND (volcanic activity)
or
Cascade AND volcanoes
5. Scan through the titles and open the articles which
relate best to your questions. Scan to see if there are answers to any of the
questions you have listed.
6. Open your Notes Sheet and
save as directed by your teacher.
7. Remember to highlight only those phrases and sentences
which are clearly related to your primary questions. You are
"culling" and "thinning" your findings so that you are
keeping only the best and most relevant information. Copy them into your Notes
Sheet. Be sparing!
8. Don't forget to cite your sources.
9. Continue searching for information on all three
volcanoes (there may not be articles for each volcano).
