Gathering Information
Collect information to answer your questions.

Step 1: Begin your research into the race characteristics, using your K-W-L Chart. Use the sites below to find answers to the questions you generated with your team.  Record what you learned in the L-Learned column of the chart.

·         Bellingham Herald Guide

·         Ski To Sea

Go back to the K column and see if any of your prior knowledge was inaccurate.  Use the L Column to rewrite and correct those statements.

Cite your information sources, by using the correct citation format. (see Citing Sources for Writing & Research)

Print your completed K-W-L Chart.

checkpointShow the completed K-W-L Chart to your teacher.

Step 2: Open the project Notes Sheet. Use the race and city information gathered for your K-W-L Chart to generate categories that your team will use in finding possible sites for the International Challenge Race.  Some categories are given, but you will need to add others that will help you locate and compare three viable sites.

Step 3: Begin to study maps of the world looking for the geographic features that are found in the Whatcom County race layout. (mountain with ski area, river, bay, etc.)

Start a list of possible locations that meet the criteria of the International Challenge Race.  As you gather information select three locations to research in depth.

Resources:
