Each team member will first investigate three countries in Latin America* using the Pre-research Assignment sheet.

Which countries look interesting to you? Is there one that you think you will be able prove the best place to live in?

  • Gather basic information on three countries using the activity sheet.
  • Find the best one of these three countries to research more closely in order to find the best place to live.

*These steps will be repeated in rounds 2 and 3 focusing on Africa and Asia using the same project format.

Pre-research Assignment Steps:

  1. Open and save the Pre-research Assignment Sheet to your h: drive.
  2. Survey country statistics from the Table of Countries (p.702) and compare the country statistics with each other and with the United States.
  3. Select three countries that look promising from this survey and list them as Countries 1, 2, and 3 on your Pre-research Sheet.
  4. For each country
    • Step 1: Collect positive and negative statistics from the textbook's Table of Countries
    • Step 2: Collect one positive and one negative piece of information about each country from the Regional Atlas in your textbook.
    • Step 3: Collect one positive and one negative item you read in your textbook about the country.
  5. Eliminate countries that have negative factors that would make life there too difficult and find a replacement country.
  6. Select your one favorite country based upon the facts you collected. This will be the country you will research further.

Show your completed Pre-Research Sheet to your teacher and be evaluated on your Buddy for Planning and Use of Time.
