Ski to Sea: It's Not Just A Race

How do geography and resources affect the choices people make in Washington and the Pacific Rim?

7th Grade

Gathering Information
Collect information to answer your questions.

Begin your research into the race characteristics, using the Ski to Sea Chart.

Always cite your information sources, by using the MLA Citation Format. Print a copy of this document for your use during the project.

After you have a good understanding of the characteristics of the Ski to Sea race, select 3 possible locations in the Pacific Rim that might be able to host such a race.

Gather information about these locations, using the Note Sheet

You will need to have a way to evaluate the locations you have chosen and make a reasoned decision as to what would be the best site for a Ski to Sea Race. A rubric is a good way to look at criteria and make evaluations.

As a group you will need to decide what criteria are important in choosing a good location. You will then need to define what characteristics of each criterion make an excellent, an adequate or a poor choice. These decisions will be shown on your Criteria Rubric.  For example:

Criteria

3

2

1

Mountain

Has snow for most of the year

Has snow for part of the year

Has very little snow

Open the link Criteria Rubric, and save the chart to the drive your teacher has chosen for you. Follow the directions on the chart to create your own rubric.

Links to other areas for research:

Save your work and print a copy of your chart and give it toNext your teacher before going on to the next step.
