Washington’s Best—Vacation!

How has the geography of Washington State influenced its history, economics, political interactions and diverse cultures?

Bellingham Schools Research Investigation

7th Grade

Project Scenario

Your task is to plan a trip around Washington that includes at least three different regions. You will need to decide which regions offer activities that meet your family’s interests and needs.

  • Your mom needs to research Washington State History for her teaching job.  She will need to visit museums and historical sites.
  • Your dad needs to find out how different cultural groups live and work together in other regions of the State.  He may need to visit tribal lands and agricultural regions where there is a large population of immigrant families.
  • You absolutely love boating and water sports.
  • You and your friend like to attend baseball games.
  • You all like to hike and camp.

What would be the most interesting regions for your family to visit? Will there be activities for all family members to enjoy at each stop?

During this project, you will learn how the geography has influenced the state’s history and the opportunities available to people of various cultural groups.

You'll need to share information with your parents in order to persuade them that your itinerary meets everyone’s needs. You must decide which regions are best to visit and then create a map of your route and a persuasive PowerPoint presentation in order to convince your parents that this is the best possible trip for everyone.
