Where Would You Settle?

How do geography, culture, and economy affect where people live?

Bellingham Schools Research Investigation

5th Grade

Steps for this Project
You will follow the Research Cycle as you work through this project. The steps are:

Questioning
Guiding question: "How do geography, culture, and economy affect where people live?"
Focus questions: questions for your colonial occupation.

Planning
Get your notes sheet. Divide the tasks among your team members.

Gathering
Use links to selected web sites to gather information.

Sorting and Sifting
Now it is time to arrange and rearrange the information to focus on what is important to your project.

Synthesizing
Look at your notes sheet.  Do you have information on all three regions? Do you need more information?

Gather, Sort, Sift, Synthesize
Repeat these steps until you have all the information you need.

Evaluating
Does your research support your decision? How well did you work as a team?

Reporting
With your team, use PowerPoint to present your decision to the class. Individually, write a persuasive letter to your family in England.
