Vacation Washington

How do geography and resources affect the choices people make in Washington State?

Project Scenario

Your task is to research all five regions of Washington State and to locate the best place in Washington to enjoy a summer vacation activity.

Your family members have many different interests.

  • Your mom is an avid mountain climber
  • Your dad is into white water rafting
  • You absolutely love to go fishing
  • You all like to attend festivals

Your team's job will be to gather information on one vacation activity (fishing, festivals, mountain climbing, or rafting).

  1. Gather information on your assigned activity for all regions of Washington State.
  2. Make a recommendation for the best region to visit for this activity.
  3. Create a poster, using Microsoft Publisher, that will persuade others to choose this place as part of their summer vacation.
  4. Posters will be displayed so students can decide which is the best choice for their vacation in Washington.
  5. Study the posters from other teams and plan a summer vacation trip that offers activities for all the family.

What would be the most interesting regions for your family to visit? Will there be activities for all family members to enjoy at each stop?

During this project, you will learn how the geography of Washington's different regions helps make certain activities possible, but others not.
