Logging Company Needs Lumberjacks

 

Lk Whatcom Log Co is now hiring lumberjacks for their Logging Camp #2, located 2 miles south of Park.  Camp #2 was recently established and in need of loggers to harvest the Hawley Alger Timber Claim of ten thousand acres. No finer timber grows than on these two claims! Loggers can be assured of having a steady job for many years to come. Besides the Hawley Alger Timber Claim, the Lake Whatcom Logging Co. purchased numerous other timber claims south of the lake. This is a modern company that uses steam donkeys and horses instead of oxen! Experience is preferred, but not necessary. Shingle Mill Needs
Bolt-Cutters

 

Jerns Shingle Mill is hiring bolt cutters for their shingle mill, located at Silver Beach on Lake Whatcom. This company has proven its success over the past three years, and offers excellent pay, as well as the safest possible working conditions.

Working for Mr. Nick Jerns brings great job security with an endless supply of red cedar stumps that will ensure employment for many years to come. Mr. Jerns employs eight to ten men and runs the mill ten months of the year. The mill turns out 50,000 16 inch and 18 inch shingles daily. Mr. Jerns takes pride in providing shingles that are “clears”, meaning that they have no flaws or knotholes. Transportation to the mill from the Bellingham Bay is provided by streetcar from the communities of New Whatcom, Sehome and Fairhaven.  Interested parties may apply in writing or in person to Mr. Nicholas Jerns, proprietor of the mill.

Blue Canyon Coal Co. is hiring men to work in their coalmines. Single men or family men are equally welcome to apply for the job!

If you are interested in applying, apply in writing to Mr. Andrew Ecklund (“Big Andy”), Superintendent of the Blue Canyon Coal Mine. To see Mr. Ecklund in person, you can catch the Fairhaven and New Whatcom Street Railway at Dock and Holly Street, to Lake Whatcom. The streetcar ride will take twenty-three minutes to make the run. The fare is ten cents. At Silver Beach, you can catch the steamboat “Marguerite” that will take you down the lake to Park and Blue Canyon, where Mr. Ecklund lives.
