By 1900, logging was finished at Camp
#1 at South Bay, so the loggers moved to
Camp 2.
Camp 2 was located two and a half miles
south of the lake, towards Alger. It was about 20 miles away from New Whatcom.
The property was known as the Hawley-Alger Timber Claim. It consisted of ten
thousand acres of the best timber found anywhere.
A short
logging railroad was
built that connected Camp 2 with Park, a small community at the head of
the lake.
The logging railroad carried logs from
Camp 2 to Park, where the logging company used the head of the lake as a log
dump.
