A coal miner had to pay for his own equipment and
tools. He purchased the dynamite
powder, squibs, paper, soap and oil from the company that employed him.
He bought the dynamite powder in caps.
His equipment included the following tools—a hand drill, a scraper,
a needle, a blasting barrel, a crowbar, a pick, a
shovel, a hammer, a sledge, a cartridge pin, an oil can, a toolbox
and a lamp.
Coal
miners needed to wear goggles in the mines, to protect their eyes from
the dust.
