My Dear Brother and Sister in Law,

I hope that this letter finds you and your children well and happy. It has been a long time since we have seen you! My wife and I have been thinking that it would be wonderful to live closer to you. I am considering quitting my hardware business and moving out West with my family, so that we can see more of each other.  I am getting tired of the cold winters here in Illinois, and I’m also getting tired of the hardware business!

Last week, one of my customers gave me a brochure entitled

"Souvenir Book of Whatcom County"”.

I read some wonderful tales about life in Whatcom County. It sounds like a “heaven on earth”!

Before I make the decision to move my family to Whatcom County, I need to know that there are job opportunities for me. Will you please do some investigating for me? If you find that there are good jobs available, I will quit my hardware business and move my family to Whatcom County.

Please give our love to your daughter Sadie, and your son James. They must be nearly grown by now! Please greet Lucy’s father, Mr. Ridgeway, and give him our best wishes.

Your devoted brother and uncle,

Cyrus
