Teacher Tips for This Project

The following are suggestions that may assist you in planning and using the research module.

  • This research module will take approximately 2-3 weeks.  Plan on spending at least two weeks in the computer lab gathering, sifting, sorting information and creating the PowerPoint presentation.
  • Students should complete this project in groups of 2-3.
  • It is highly recommended to have a cart of books and/or encyclopedias, which support the research.
  • The Internet sites linked in this project have been reviewed and selected for their direct support of the research problem.
  • You may wish to modify the scope of the investigation requirements if time is a factor.  Teams might research 3 of the 4 tidal zones.
  • Work with the Library Media Specialist to introduce the use of PowerPoint prior to or as students begin working on their presentations. You might ask the LMS to help you save the PowerPoint presentation template to a folder on your school server.
  • You may wish to invite parents or other classes of students in the school when group presentations are scheduled.  Schedule blocks of time in the computer lab where your class can use the projection monitor for their presentations.
  • Be sure to give feedback on your experience with this project by sending the Teacher Feedback Form to Nancy Messmer at Library-Media & Technology.
