Teacher Tips for
This Project
Read
and discuss Home, Scenario, and Steps with the students.
Discuss
the Questioning section. Have students brainstorm other living
conditions that they may find important in making their decision.
Record these on large chart paper that can be hung up for later
reference. Partners will need
to meet to choose one more living condition and think of a
related question.
Print
the Teacher Checklist to track the progress of each team
through the project.
Print project documents for your students. These include:
Discuss
the teamwork section of Planning. Share the
teamwork rubric so students know what constitutes “good work” in each area.
Discuss
the research planning and share the research rubric as the
students begin gathering information so they know what “good research work”
is.
When
the students come to a Check Point, they will bring their work to
you. Use this time to discuss their progress and re-direct them as
necessary. Check off each team on the Teacher Checklist to track
class progress.
Reporting:
Demonstrate how to open the PowerPoint Template. Show brief examples
of how to do each page. Demonstrate how to access graphics that students
may wish to use in illustrating individual slides. You may find some in World Book,
Microsoft Office clipart.
Demonstrate
how the teams will save their work. You may wish to work with your
school’s Librarian to create a folder on a shared drive for saving these
projects.
Demonstrate
how students should cite their information resources for the final slide in
the PowerPoint. You may use
the information contained on the 3rd Grade
Bibliographical Format from Instructional Media Center of the Orwell
Public Schools, Orwell New Jersey.
Students should cite the three information sources as well as the
source of any graphics used in the PowerPoint presentations.
Share the presentation rubric when the students begin working on the
PowerPoint. Share it again when they are finished and are rehearsing
their presentation.
Completing
the Project
