Staff development is an important part of each employee’s
job. Learning and training options are offered by the
District. Some are required of certain positions. Others
enhance specific skills and abilities and contribute
to both personal and professional growth.
The
Professional Development Office provides District personnel
with an easy-to-use comprehensive on-line guide to professional
development courses and events. Many of the course offerings
outlined in the
District Professional Development Catalog bridge
the connection between educational research and classroom
practice through job-embedded staff development for
teachers and instructional support staff. At this time,
the majority of the classes listed in the Professional
Development Catalog are designed for certificated staff;
however, classes are open to all staff. In the future,
the Professional Development Catalog will include the
full array of opportunities for staff training and professional
development.
New
employees are required to take specific trainings
in sexual harassment and bloodborne
pathogen. New teachers may take advantage of mentor
training.
Secretaries,
instructional assistants, and office personnel can access
BASE
professional development opportunities. Custodians
and maintenance employees, transportation, and food
service personnel have trainings geared
to their needs.
District-identified
employees receive periodic refresher trainings in bloodborne
pathogen and first aid.
