Purpose(s): |
The
Task Force will describe the core understandings and common practices that
drive literacy instruction, identify assessment tools and, complete
activities outlined in the District Reading Improvement Plan for the
Elementary according to indicated timelines. |

provide regular opportunities for staff input to the committee in order to
make recommendations for consistent practices for literacy K-5

2001/2002 ·
Identify
and develop tools for ongoing assessment of reading progress across content
and genre ·
Develop
an Assessment Guide for staff to increase understanding and consistently
implement district and classroom assessments ·
Identify
and provide tools that support student self evaluation of reading progress ·
Expand
opportunities for students to develop/improve reading skills through Summer school and extended
day programs including identification and imple- mentation of model
intervention programs for students reading below grade level
standards ·
Evaluate
level of need for district-wide, grade level or other focused meetings, and
organize if a need is established ·
Update
and further develop district professional development library to include current
Readings, videos and
electronic resources that support exemplary practices and core Understandings for reading
instruction ·
Identify
programs to provide support for family literacy ·
Develop
a “Parent Compact” to support students who are reading below standards 2002-2003
·
Identify
resources to support collaboration among and between regular education and Support staff at the
building level ·
Further
develop parent and family links to the district web site with focus on
resources specific lessons,
opportunities for parents to monitor and communicate about student progress ·
Complete
revisions and editing of the Support Guide for Literacy |
