DESCRIPTION OF DISTRICT
Bellingham School District #501 is a first class school district. Beginning at a point on the south boundary of Whatcom County, midway between Eliza Island and Lummi Island, and running northerly and easterly to the center of Bellingham Bay, “See alteration below April 3, 1941” thence northerly along the center line of said River to a point where said line crosses the north line of Twp. 38 N., R. 2 E.; thence east to the northeast corner of Sec.4, Twp. 38 N., R. 2 E., thence south to the southeast corner of said Sec. 4´ thence east to the southwest corner of the southeast quarter of the southwest quarter of Sec.2., Twp. 38 N., R. 2 E.; thence north to the northwest corner of the southeast quarter of the southwest quarter of said Sec. 2; thence east to the northeast corner of the west half of the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter of said Sec. 2; thence south to the south line of said Sec. 2; thence east along the south lines of Secs. 2 and 1., Twp. 38 N., R. 2 E. and Secs. 6 and 5, Twp. 38 N., R. 3 E. to the southwest corner of Sec. 4, Twp. 38 N, R. 3 E; thence north to the east and west center line of Sec. 4, Twp. 38 N., R 3 E:; Thence east to the center of Sec. 3, Twp. 38 N., R 3 E.; thence south to the center of Sec. 10, Twp. 38 N., R. 3 E.; thence east to the center of Sec. II, Twp. 38 N., R. 3 E; thence south to the south line of said Sec. II; thence east to north and south center line of Sec. 13, Twp. 38 N., R.3 E., thence south to the center of Sec. 24, Twp. 38 N., R. 3 E.; thence east along the east and west center line of Sec. 24, Twp. 38 N., R. 3 E. and the east and west center lines of Secs. 19, 20, 21, and 22, Twp. 38 N., R. 4 E. to the east line of said Sec. 22; thence south to the southeast corner of Sec. 34, Twp. 38 N., R. 4 E; thence west along the south line of Twp. 38 N. R. 4 E. to the northeast corner of Government Lot 4, in Sec. 4, Twp. 37 N., R. 4 E.; thence south along the east line of Government Lots 4 and 5, in said Sec. 4 to the Government meander line on Lake Whatcom; thence southerly at right angles to the Government meander line to the center line of Lake Whatcom; thence southeasterly and southerly along the center line of Lake Whatcom to a point where said line crosses the southline of Sec. 16, Twp. 37 N., R. 4 E; thence west to the southwest corner of Sec. 18, Twp. 37 N., R 4 E.; thence south along the Twp. line between R. 3 E. and R. 4 E. to the northwest corner of Government Lot 4 of Sec. 31, Twp. 37 N., R. 4 E.; thence east to the northeast corner of said Government Lot 4; thence south to the south line of Whatcom County; thence west and westerly to the point of beginning. District is 97 square miles.
April 3, 1942 – By official action of the Whatcom County Committee for School District Reorganization and the State Committee for School District Reorganization the boundary between Ferndale School District No. 502 and the Bellingham School District No. 501, was changed as follows:
“Thence northerly to Treaty Rock or the southeasterly corner of the Lummi Reservation; thence northwesterly and westerly along the boundary of said reservation to the center of the present main channel of the Nooksack River, “ (Page 40, Official Record Book “E”, Gordon L.
