BOARD POLICY
SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
The District's summer school programs shall provide for students in need of extra instruction and learning to achieve proficiency standards required by state and district assessments. In addition, they shall provide enrichment opportunities that extend learning opportunities for students beyond those available in the basic curriculum of the district.
Fees shall be collected to cover costs for which revenues are not otherwise provided, except in cases where students are required to participate as part of their educational program, in which case the district shall provide necessary costs. To the extent that the District can absorb costs for other offerings, fees may be waived or reduced for students whose families would have difficulty paying the full fee. The USDA Child Nutrition Program Guidelines shall be used to determine qualifications for waivers or reductions. Priority in fee waivers and reductions shall be given to offerings designed to provide for students in need of extra learning opportunities to perform proficiently on required assessments and standards. Parents shall be informed of the availability of any fee waivers or reductions in the notice of summer school and extended day programs. The Superintendent shall be responsible for developing procedures that support the implementation of this policy.
