Student learning in public schools begins with described learning standards or goals students must achieve. The Bellingham School District has described its own District Essential Learnings which, together with the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs), outline what an educated student must know and do by the time of graduation.

In addition, students also must complete the Washington State Graduation Requirements, according to the Bellingham School District policy 2410.

K - 8 Learning Targets are documents that outline the Bellingham School District learning targets for each grade level.

Technology Standards are information literacy standards for students that are integrated into all subjects and grade levels, to assure all students are effective users of ideas and information, through the use of available technologies.
