Service Learning in Action

Learn & Serve Grant:
This grant supplied money to create mentorship teams to develop service-learning projects and to fund participation at the National Service-Learning Conference.

Project Connect: A University-Middle School Service Learning Collaboration was developed and implemented in the Spring of 1999. The designers were Tina Mattioli Allsop and Callie Underhill of Fairhaven Middle School and Angela Harwood and Jenel Chang of Western Washington University. The following PowerPoint presentation was presented at both the 1999 National Middle School Conference and 1999 National Council for Social Studies Convention in Orlando, Florida. Preservice teachers worked with educators and 8th grade students to provide help in their community. Areas of service included working with children, the elderly, the environment, animal care and social services. Please click above to view the PowerPoint presentation.
