Registration for Kindergarten Fall 2009
Begins March 2nd!
Fall 2009 kindergarten registration for Bellingham schools begins March 2rd, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Register at your neighborhood school. Be sure to bring proof of your child's birth date and immunization records. Children must be 5 years old before Sept. 1, 2009 to attend kindergarten. Early admittance will be considered for children born September 1 to October 1. Click here if you need more information about entrance age.
All schools will offer a half-day every day kindergarten program from 9:00 - 11:35 a.m. or 12:55 - 3:30 p.m. There is no cost for half-day kindergarten. In addition, Alderwood, Carl Cozier, Happy Valley, Lowell, Northern Heights, and Roosevelt elementary schools will offer full-day kindergarten from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monthly tuition for the full-day option will be charged on a sliding scale based on a family's qualifying income for free/reduced meals. Full-day kindergarten will be offered at each of the pilot schools for those registered by March 13, 2009. Available spaces will be filled by lottery. Families living outside of the full-day kindergarten schools' attendance areas may apply for full-day kindergarten, but will need to provide their own transportation if selected through a district-wide lottery. They should register at their neighborhood school.
Lunch will be available to all kindergarten students. Title I schools will continue to offer an extended day option.
Kindergarten assessments will take place at the beginning of the school year. All assessment appointments will be scheduled the first three days of school, September 8, 9, and 10. The first regular day for kindergarten students will be Friday, September 11, 2009. Your school will distribute schedules for individual parent/teacher kindergarten entrance conferences and assessments.
