The
2005-2010 Bellingham School District Strategic Plan
has been developed through a collaborative process during
the 2004-05 school year.
This new strategic plan is designed to support, honor
and guide our schools’
strategic plans, and to provide alignment for all
of the Bellingham School District’s work in the
next five years.
The draft was shared publicly in May 2005. Community
members, families and staff provided additional feedback
through an online survey. The District Strategic
Planning Steering Committee used those comments to complete
this final
draft. The
Board of Directors adopted the plan on August 11, 2005.
Staff
will develop specific action plans to carry out the
work in the plan's goals and target objectives.
These work priorities will be submitted to the Board
of Directors annually each fall. Progress will
be monitored and measured according to the Measures
of Progress on page five of the plan. The Steering
Committee will reconvene annually to review progress
on implementation of this strategic plan.
2004-05:
Strategic Planning Process
The Steering
Committee was responsible for drafting this plan
based upon data collected during a collaborative feedback
process involving families, staff and community members.
After attending an informational session in January
2005, staff, family and community members selected by
their schools attended focus groups meetings in January
and February to provide input on academics, family engagement
and the preparation of students for success beyond high
school.
More than 200 staff, families and community members
generated 8,854 comments, sharing their perspectives
on the District's strengths and challenges.
This data was shared with focus group participants and
used by the Steering Committee. The draft plan was shared
in May for public review for additional input before
adoption in August 2005.
