The largest of seven school districts in Whatcom County, Bellingham covers 97 square miles and has 73,000 residents. Over 10,000 students are enrolled in the District. Thirteen elementary schools serve students grades K – 5; four middle schools serve students grades 6 – 8; and three high schools serve students in grades 9 – 12. A small alternative high school is also available, as well as preschool and post-high school programs for students with disabilities.

Approximately 700 professional educators and 550 classified support staff work together to serve students.  More than 88% of the faculty have more than five years of college or hold master’s degrees; many are leaders in their field and have received local, state, and national honors.

Bellingham has a class size average of 24 for grades K-12.
