School Attendance Areas

The largest of seven school districts in Whatcom County, Bellingham serves over 10,000 students. The District covers 97 square miles and has 73,000 residents. Students attend schools based on neighborhood boundaries. Elementary schools serve children in grades kindergarten through five; middle schools serve students in grades six through eight; and high schools serve students in grades nine through twelve. As enrollment increases and family living patterns shift, school boundaries are adjusted occasionally to balance enrollments.

New elementary boundaries are in effect starting fall 2008.   Click here to read more.

To find a street on the PDFs below, open up the PDF you want, and click on the Search function (binoculars) in the PDF toolbar.  Type in the name of the street and it will be highlighted on the map.  You will need to find the street numbers by searching the map.

  • Elementary Attendance Areas for 2008-09    The adopted boundary changes for northside elementary schools (Alderwood, Birchwood, Northern Heights and Sunnyland) go into effect in fall 2009 with the opening of the Aldrich Road elementary school.   The 2009-10 map will be posted at a later date.

For more information about these changes, please contact the district office at 676-6400.

For additional information, several School Board Policies address student attendance areas.
