The Career and Technical Education programs in Bellingham School
District provide students in grades 9 – 12 with the following
opportunities:· Explore potential career and educational
pathways · Prepare for further education related to the training
and knowledge received in high school career and technical education
classes· Gain the skills to prepare for employment following
high school.
Through
classes in the Career and Technical Education programs, students
are encouraged to attain achievement of high academic standards
as they gain leadership skills and prepare for industry-defined
employment, certification and advanced and continuing education.
In
Bellingham School District, students may select Career and Technical
Education classes in the following pathways:· Arts and Communication·
Business and Marketing· Health, Education and Human Services·
Science and Natural Resources· Technology and Industry.
Many
of the Career and Technical Education programs provide an opportunity
for juniors and seniors to earn both high school and college credit
through the Tech Prep program. Students who successfully complete
high school classes identified as “tech prep” with a
B or better grade may apply for college credit at Bellingham Technical
College, Whatcom Community College or Skagit Valley College. For
additional information about Tech Prep classes, contact the Career
Center, counseling office or the teacher of the “tech prep”
class.
Students
are more likely to succeed when they see a purpose to their studies.
By linking academic lessons to real activities and situations, the
Career and Technical Education program helps to improve student
motivation and academic performance – and prepares students
to choose careers of interest.
