Meeting Notes Date: September 30, 2005

Topic : Budget for 2005-2006

 Summary : $8900 reduction from last year

 Next Steps : Need to check to see how long Pac Mate is covered by warranty

 

Topic : Do-It Pals – Terry Thompson   

Summary : Do-It Pals is a nation-wide organization matching students with disabilities who plan a technical education with mentors. Do It Scholars Program at the UW is for students with disabilities planning for a college education. These could be good culminating projects for high school students

Next Steps :

  1. Give info on Do-It to Community Transitions and high schools.
  2. Carol will arrange for Assistive Tech Committee members to receive Do-It Newsletter

Topic : Pac Mate Demonstration

Next Steps : John Glenn will demonstrate at December 2, 2005 Assistive Technology Committee meeting

 

Topic : Review of Spring Conference (Pat Contor)

 

Topic : Purchase of student specific printer ($120) for Roosevelt student

Summary : Student needs to print, but classroom has no printer and has to print on library printer.

Next Steps : Carol will check to see why classroom doesn't have a printer, then check for an unused printer already in district.

 

Topic : Purchase of Boardmaker for Parkview Resource ($358)

Summary : This will be used temporarily and then returned to Assistive Technology Committee

Next Steps : Carol will arrange purchase

 

Topic : Dragon training for student at BHS (John Glenn)   

Summary : John observed student using Dragon. This student has had formal training.

Next Steps : John will write up observation and give next steps. Investigate having WWU student or BHS student serve as mentor.

 

Topic : Parkview student, as per approved Independent Educational Evaluation request from parent will use CWU AT Center.

Summary : Looking for educational software to enhance or improve his educational access. This will not be an Assistive Technology Committee expense.

 

Topic : Procedure for SETC loaned equipment.

Summary : Do these requests need to go through AT committee, or can Carol arrange and approve shipping cost of $50 per loan.

Next Steps : Carol will arrange loans, but should keep track of expenditures and report to committee via email if more than 5 loans occur during each quarter.

 

Topic : Old Mac Laptops and Little Planet equipment in Roeder storage

Summary : No one has used them for years. What should we do with them?

Next Steps : Carol will send email to Special Ed staff and teachers to see if anyone wants them. If not, send to surplus.

 

Topic : Lost FM systems

Summary : Need a procedure for ensuring “ownership” responsibility at building level

Next Steps : Principal will be designee responsible for equipment and sign equipment form. Darcy will prepare a protocol

 

Topic : Upgrade of Alderwood Preschool donated computer to support Touchwindow that was purchased 04-05.

Next Steps : Carol will upgrade computer.
