The Assistive Technology Committee
Meeting Minutes

September 12, 2003

 

In attendance were Sue Thomas, George Hartnell, Terry Pauls, Pat Contor, Toni Clough, Diane Delahunty, Karen Tracy, Carol Reppun, John Glenn, Terry Thompson.

 

A Mac trackball for Primary Lifeskills will be purchased by Carol.

 

Carol will install Inspirations and CoWriter at FMS for Shae L.

 

Diane Delahunty – communication devices for Christopher L. are being explored at Silver Beach. (Vantage, etc.) SETC collaborative assessment was done last spring. Sue Thomas will explore District's responsibility for this type of purchase.

 

Terry Thompson from UW was introduced.. He discussed DO-IT and Access IT.

 

Aaron B. (FMS – Lona Way) now has an Alphasmart to use.

 

Carol will check out how Makenna P. (BHS – Kerrie Harrison) did with the Alphasmart this summer and find out if she referred herself for DO-IT. Did Makenna return the Alphasmart?

 

Carol will purchase a Dana. When it arrives we'll schedule an extra Asst. Tech. Committee meeting and possibly invite OT/PT's and SLPs, etc. (Per Terry Pauls, cost is about $400.) Carol will contact Alphasmart to see if they'll send a Dana rep here for a training.

 

Carol will check with Pat Contor and Toni Clough re spare batteries for Katie F. (WMS – Walsh) laptop.

 

Carol will type req. for Isabelle F. (NH Pre) DHOH equipment.

 

Carol will get contract ready for Zephyr Tech training of Makenna P. and Meghla J.

 

Touchscreen has been moved from Geneva Lifeskills to Geneva Resource Room. We'll wait to purchase another Touchscreen for Geneva Lifeskills until a need arises.

 

Carol will organize training for Delta Talker – see if someone can come here instead of phone conference training.

 

Powermac has been moved from Geneva to Sehome Lifeskills, loaded with Attainment software bundle and Boardmaker was installed on teacher Gateway. Sue T. asked George H. to check out why Sehome LS doesn't have a student Gateway.

 

Carol will check with Sehome LS re Mac Launcher program. If cost is $100 or less, Carol will order it.

 

Carol will order a color printer for Sehome LS teacher computer. Teacher black and white printer will be moved to new student Gateway (see above.)

 

Carol will check to see what version of Naturally Speaking Meghla J. has at home. George H. will checkout BHS student specific computer to see if it can handle version Naturally Speaking 7.0.

 

Yvette Casto present a referral for Books on Tape for a student. The committee approved this purchase. John Glenn will help Yvette with ordering.

 

Carol will take Terry Thompson to schools to look at students using technology, as follows:
