Washington's K-12 Initiative   This Initiative was designed to provide school librarians with the skills, tools and training needed to make a positive impact on students achievement.
  eSchool News Online   This site offers powerful summaries of key issues in K-20 educational technology. Use the easy registration process for free access to the information. Required fields include: name, title/function, organization, address, email address. You may customize your registration to limit the services desired.
AASL Advocacy Kit   A collection of ready-to-use tools to conduct an advocacy campaign for school library media programs.
Research Studies
NW Regional Educational Laboratory Nexus of Knowledge: The School Library in the 21st Century , Fall 2003, Volume 9 Number 1, ISSN: 1546-5020   The research is clear: When a professionally-trained and certified school librarian collaborates with teachers, works with kids one-to-one, teaches information literacy, and reaches out to public libraries, students in her building perform better academically.

The Ohio Study   "Student Learning Through Ohio Schoo Libraries" by Dr. Ross Todd and Dr. Carol Kuhlthau, noted international researchers on school libraries and student learning
The Oregon Study   The Executive Summary of the Oregon Study is available online: "Good Schools Have Good Libraries" ( doc ) or ( pdf ), by Keith Curry Lance, Marcia Rodney and  Christine Hamilton-Pennell. The full study is available for $20 at the site linked the left column.
  NWREL   Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory provides access to research and resources on school improvement.
  NCREL   North Central Regional Educational Laboratory provides access to research and resources on school improvement.
  Articles
  The Techno-Savy Book-Rich Media Center   Jamie McKenzie's April 2004 article in From Now On presents his view of a library environment which "speeds its clients to the most reliable, the most authoritative and the most accurate information" by being directive, instructive, discerning, focused, client oriented and much more.
  "School Libraries: Quietly Making a Difference"   This article from District Administration (DA), a Magazine for K-12 Administrators, presents the research data and analysis from AEL on the role of School Libraries in student achievement. Researcher Keith Curry Lance is quoted.
  School Libraries and Their Impact on Student Performance   This article from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) cites the research as it answers the question, "What effects do school libraries have on student achievement?"
  "The Essential Link"   This article from Northwest Education Magazine, an online publication of NW Regional Education Library outlines the improvements in Medford, OR school libraries and the Oregon Study.
  "Libraries and Technology"   This special report from eSchool News includes a clear summary of the research studies related to libraries and technology. Also included is an article by Nancy Messmer, Director of Library Media and Technology in Bellingham, called "What's New--And Essential--For School Libraries in the 21st Century."
  Library Media Center: Centers for Learning in the Digital Age   eSchool News Special Report on the tools being used in school libraries across the country. Cites Bellingham School District in the report.
