Checklist for Processing New Materials

Adding MARC Records

Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials

  1. Identify high-quality materials that meet district guidelines.
     
  1. Know and understand the criteria delineated in the Instructional Materials Policy and the Instructional Materials Procedures.
  2. Peruse standard Selection Sources
  3. Attend conference and workshop sessions that review new materials.
  4. Encourage teachers, students and parents to recommend new materials for acquisition.
  5. Maintain a consideration file.
  6. Accept gift and donated materials only if they meet district guidelines.
  7. Check against lists of recommended materials

 

  1. Select materials for purchase
    1. Prioritize materials for purchase
    2. Track budget expenditures.  
  1. Follow established ordering procedures.
    1. Follow the Materials-Ordering Steps , then email your order documents to Library Media and Technology.
    2. Print a copy of the order and attach District Non-Basic Instructional Materials Evaluation Forms B, C and Software to show you have based your orders on the District selection criteria.
    3. Form B – AV . Reviews are not available. LMS or teacher has reviewed the materials.
    4. Form B – Print materials . Reviews are not available. LMS has reviewed the materials.
    5. Form C – Reviews from recognized sources are noted.
    6. Software Evaluation Form & Questions for Software Selection - Teacher or LMS has reviewed the interactive software program.Reserve sufficient funds to respond to unforeseen needs and requests throughout the year.

 

  1. Process new materials according to Checklist for Processing New Materials in support materials.
    1. Submit Form B for all gifts and donated materials.
    2. Create Categories as required to meet building needs.
    3. Add MARC Records to the database as needed.
  1. Know the procedures that a parent or guardian should follow for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials and the Request for Reconsideration form .
