Guidelines (click on link) for communicating with parents/legal guardians who speak a language other than English

The Bellingham School District has guidelines and procedures for accessing and using interpreters and translators.  These guidelines and procedures are intended to be used by district staff in communicating with families who speak a language other than English.

Interpreters

The district provides a list of board-approved individuals who may serve as interpreters for school meetings and activities.  Please follow the process given below to contact an interpreter. Contact Heather Olson at holson@bham.wednet.edu or at extension 6542 if you have any questions regarding the process.

TransACT Translation Library (click on link)
Our district has contracted with TransACT to provide commonly used school forms in many different languages. The Library contains 60+ documents translated into 23 languages for effective communication with limited and/or non-English-speaking families. Each document is professionally translated, typeset, edited, desktop published and contains our school district's specific information. To access TransACT, you must be an invited user in order to obtain a login and password.  If you would like to learn more about the TransACT Translation Library and how to access the forms, contact Heather Olson at 676-6542 or holson@bham.wednet.edu.
