Joint Learning Project :

Review of April 22 nd and 23 rd Joint Learning Institute

The members of the Board reviewed the suggestions and comments provided by the participants in the April Joint Learning Institute. In general, the Board thought that the April Joint Learning Institute was valuable. Provided opportunities for participants to discuss similarities and differences in understandings about instruction.

Adrienne shared a draft of a visual representation of the work of the partnership. She asked the group to help think about additions, revisions, and other representations that will help participants understand our goal and the work.

Stephanie suggested that a small group work on a document that shows and alignment of the WWU Standards with the BSD Standards. The document would also contain common performance indicators for each of the aligned standards. This group would also look at the INTASC Standards and other documents to calibrate the performance indicators. Some possible next steps also included addition of content standards and dispositions, include instruments that are currently being used to support implementation of our standards, identify and describe the scaffold and differentiation of support is provided by the partners to ensure implementation of the standards. Members of the small group are Sheila Fox, Adrienne Nelson, David Carroll, Lisa Conlon, and Shirley Potter. The document will be written in June and shared with the Board at the August meeting.

The planning team will also review the documents developed at the April Joint Learning Institute and determine which ones to send to the participants. The goal is to keep the participants thinking about the work of the partnership. In addition, further literature and the draft of the standards and Criterion alignment with Performance Indicators will be sent out to participants in September as preparation for the October Institute.

Next Joint Learning Institute

The next Joint Learning Institute is tentatively planned for the first week in October, 2005.
