Meeting Minutes

Carol Egan called the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m.

Members Present: Anne Seeger, Linda Chapman, Laura Rink, John Mangan, Dave Adams, Byron Gerard, Carol Egan, Jean Prochaska

Mike D’Hondt, Chris Carty, and Lori Dorough presented Elementary Science FOSS Kits. The Water, pilot kit for 3rd grade science, is engaging, covers common material on earth, introduces looking for evidence, connects to kids’ world, includes graphing and water changing states. The Measurement, supplemental kit for 4th grade science, is very engaging, can “enter” at different levels and is authentic. The Variables, supplemental kit for 5th grade science is needed for Science WASL, engages students and processes GLE’s, not content GLE’s. FOSS Kits are excellent for teacher support. They include videos and a teacher background section. They contain literacy stories at an instructional level. All FOSS kits need some modification to align with WA GLE’s.

All committee members will preview Sex Ed DVDs that were submitted by high school health teachers. Members signed up. The committee will discuss these materials at the next meeting.
