MEETING MINUTES

Members Present: Anne Seeger, Laura Rink, John Mangan, Susan Hofstetter, Carol Egan, and Ann Reed
Guest: Lynn Torpey, HS Math Teacher

• Carol Egan presented meeting dates for next year. Laura noted that she is officially a high school parent for next year and is willing to participate at that representative position for next year. John Mangan noted that his term has expired.

• College Preparatory Mathematics Algebra Connections
Carol Egan reported that this edition is new and training will be scheduled for next year. Although it is not necessary for the IMC to approve new editions, Carol felt the IMC should be aware of the new edition which will be used in the 8th grade next year. Lynn Torpey shared the differences in the new edition which included a parent resource guide and student supplements that are clearer and more hands-on for differentiated learning. Lynn reported that the new edition includes reflection and student opportunities for explaining their thinking.

• Reconsideration of Instructional Material: Bridge to Terabithia, by Katherine Paterson. .
Ann Reed reported on the Review Team’s findings on the novel. The Committee accepted the review team’s recommendation that the novel is appropriate for 5th grade students and above. Ann Reed will communicate the recommendation with the elementary librarians, where literature circle titles are typically stored and checked out to instructional staff. Ann will also contact the parent to inform her on the process and recommendation and inform the current and new superintendent.
The Curriculum Department may consider developing an elementary novel list.
